No Water.  No Lights.  No Service.
By Bethany Rogers

For as long as I can remember, my sister Kari has been an adventure-seeker, a go-getter, a lover of things that are difficult to love.  It was in 2007 that she graduated from Valley Lutheran with that mindset and set out on a journey toward something just a little bit bigger.  Having found a love for Spanish here at Valley, she decided to major in it at Valparaiso University in Indiana.  During her time there, she discovered that her greatest joy came from helping others and seeing lives change.  So combining her interest in Spanish and service, she began the long process of applying for the Peace Corps during her senior year of college with the hope of being placed in Latin America where she could put her language skills into practice.  But things didn’t turn out quite as expected.  She soon found out that instead of being stationed in a Spanish-speaking country, she was going to be sent to Rwanda, a tiny country in central eastern Africa.  And it was just a couple months later on September 12, 2011 when she made the long trip to her “new home” along with thirty-nine other Peace Corps volunteers.  However, this trip wasn’t just for a few weeks or even a few months.  No; she would be gone for two-and-a-half years.  Life would never be the same, for my family and most definitely for her....

The big problem right now is who is running the race.  The Democrats will go with their incumbent, Barack Obama.  For the Republicans however, their candidate is not yet chosen.  There is a system which is used to pick that candidate, which is similar in some fashions to the Electoral College system used in the general election.  However, Republicans and Democrats have different ways of doing this.

Mystery Party
By Emily Fehn

The party was a get together for the most famous detectives in the
world. The guests, seven in all, were all to arrive at midnight wearing
their finest clothes -men black suits, women evening gowns.  It would be
held at a secluded mansion, which belonged to Mr. Genington of New York,
the best of the best at his practice, who due to some appointments would
be arriving at the party late. The first to arrive at 11:15 was Mr.
Germanasta. The short, skittish looking man carried his bags to his room
and then went to the parlor to wait for the other guests. The next to
arrive at 11:30 was Mrs. Jin, a woman from China. She was a very firm
detective, but greatly disliked the sight of blood.
